The sequential simplex methods are easy to
understand and practice. Trials are successively performed in a direction of improvement
until the optimum is reached. The simplex methods can handle many variables with only a
few trials, and do not require any assumptions with regard to an underlying
model.
This is a live demonstration of the basic and
modified simplex methods in two dimensions. Click with the mouse pointer somewhere on the
Java applet area and watch how the simplex, a triangle in two dimensions, moves to the
target (optimum) step-by-step.
